Shin Seung Chan and Lee So Hee of Korea lived up to the expectations of their home fans as they claimed Women’s Doubles title at the Badminton Asia Youth Under 19 Championships 2012 on Saturday, July 7, in Korea.
In the title match, Shin Seung and Lee So defeated their lower ranked opponents Yu Xiaohan and Huang Yaqiong of China in a sensational fight.
Shin Seung and Lee So, who were top seeds in the tournament, had to put in extra effort to outplay their talented Chinese rivals in a hard-fought rubber-set contest.
The top seeded Korean ladies failed to prove their worth in opening game but made the score levelled by taking the second set. They continued their elevated and impressive run on court and won the final set to wrap up the title in 75 minutes.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Xiaohan and Yaqiong failed to continue their giant killing run in the final battle and despite playing well they lost to their mighty Korean opponents in three games with a close margin.
In the first game, Shin Seung and Lee So failed to find a good start as they committed a few un-forced errors and also could not control the pace of rallies.
Until the one-minute interval, the Korean duo remained slightly behind of Chinese rivals on the board.
After the interval, Shin Seung and Lee So tried to push their rivals in a defensive position but failed to dictate the pace and lost the battle with a 17-21 score on the board.
In the second game, the top seeded Shin Seung and Lee So played with precision as they accelerated their speed at net and also remained positive.
The aggressive and planned play of Korean shuttlers helped them to take the second game with a margin of 21-15.
In the decider, both pairs were positive on court as they played with precision and remained close until the interval.
After the break, Shin Seung and Lee So controlled the pace and started to stretch the gap on score board. They managed to create pressure on their Chinese opponents and took the game with a margin of 21-17.
Shin Seung and Lee So won the Women’s Doubles medal with an entertaining margin of 17-21, 21-15 and 21-17.
