Badminton Association of England appoint Jakob Hoi as chief coach for Doubles category
The Badminton Association of England made drastic changes in Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles coaching staff after the poor performance in the 2012 London Olympics and hired the services of Jakob Hoi who will be responsible to improve the calibre of Doubles’ shuttlers as a chief coach.
Jakob has a wonderful experience of working with Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles players in different countries of the world and he recently has been working as a head coach in this department for the national team of Germany.
The main intentional behind his appointment as chief coach for Doubles is to prepare shuttlers for the Commonwealth Games 2014, which will take place in Glasgow,  and for 2016 Olympic Games which will be held in Brazil.
Jens Grill, the performance director said that it is a good decision to hire the services of Jakob considering that he has got a lot of experience and is expected to take the game to a higher level.
Jens stated, “We are confident Jakob can take them to that level while at the same time bringing on the other promising doubles players coming through. We have players in the world's top 20 but we have seen during the Olympic Games that our players still need to move to a higher level.”
Jakob is also optimistic that his experience with English players will be good and that he has got motivation that all stakeholders have shown a greater level of commitment to take badminton to a higher level in England.
He added, “I am motivated by people with a goal, and at best an ambitious goal. From meetings with players, managers and coaches of Badminton England it has been confirmed to me that I will meet a great organisation, a great team, and not least, a great potential of players.”
Britain’s top and World Number 11 shuttlers in Mixed Doubles category, Imogen Bankier and Chris Adcock, got a severe treatment in the 2012 London Olympics as they could not even qualify for the knockout stage as they lost all of their group matches.
The poor outing at Wembley Arena forced the Badminton Association of England to make necessary changes in the coaching staff and now Jakob will take care of Doubles department in an effort to improve the level of players for getting better results in all major tournaments.
