Badminton Association of India reveal national squad for the upcoming Hong Kong and China Opens
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) revealed the names of national squad for the upcoming tournaments including the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series and the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series.
Hong Kong Open will take place from November 15 to 20 in Hong Kong, whereas China Open will kick off on November 22, at Shanghai, China. Both events fall under the category of BWF Super Series events in which all top shuttlers participate to earn the ranking points.
The Indian team is comprised on 12 shuttlers, who will play in all categories of the game including Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Eight men and four women will take part in the upcoming events.
Initially the list of nine male players and three female shuttlers was issued but BAI made some changes in it and re-issued the new list. The number of male shuttlers has been cut down to eight from the initial nine members, whereas the addition of P.V. Sindhu in the Women’s shuttlers has increased the number to four.
Dr Vijai Sinha, the general secretary BAI said that, "there are some changes in the team list announced today and the team for the same championships announced a month ago."
In the category of Men’s Singles, the World Number 26 Parupalli Kashyap will lead the squad followed by number 34 Ajay Jayaram, number 52 R.M.V Gurusaidutt, number 56 Arvind Bhat and Sourabh Varma who is ranked at number 87 in the Men’s Singles world standings.
In the Women’s Singles category, the world Number Four Saina Nehwal will participate in the events along with the young shuttler P.V. Sindhu.
In the category of Women’s Doubles, the World Number 18 Jwala Gutta and Ashwini will lift Indian flag in both tournaments.
In the Men’s Doubles category, Sanave Thomas and Rupesh Kumar will participate in the events. The pair is currently placed at 28th position in the world standings.
In Mixed Doubles event, the World Number 25 V. Diju and Jwala Gutta will be the couple from India.
All shuttlers in the Indian team have good world rankings and they will try to earn more points in these tournaments which will help them in finding a better place in the 2012 London Olympics.
