Badminton Association of Indonesia announce 20-member squad for the SEA Games – Badminton news
The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) has announced a 20-member squad for next month’s South East Asian Games (SEA Games). The event will be held from November 11-22 in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. These twenty shuttlers will participate
in all categories of the game including Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
In the Men’s Singles category, four shuttlers from Indonesia will compete in the competition. In this category, former Olympic and World Champion, Taufik Hidayat, who is currently World Number Five, will join forces with Simon Santoso, Tommy Sugiarto and
Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka.
The Women’s Singles category will also comprise on four shuttlers including Lindaweni Fanetri, Adriyanti Firdasari, Bellatrix Manuputty and Maria Febe Kusumastuti.
Manager of the national team, Maria Fransisca named the Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles’ shuttlers for the tournament. She said, “Bona Septano-Mohammad Ahsan and Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan will enter the men’s doubles. Greysia Polii-Meiliana
Jauhari and Vita Marissa-Nadya Melati in the women’s doubles, while Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir and Fran Kurniawan-Pia Zebadiah will compete in mixed doubles.”
PBSI have announced a wonderful squad that has the potential to make a clean sweep in the event as all shuttlers are talented and have an extensive experience of playing at international level.
Indonesia’s Richard Maenaky, the coach for Mixed Doubles, is optimistic for the better performance of shuttlers in the tournament. He also claimed that it will be an all-Indonesia final at the SEA Games in the category of Mixed Doubles.
Taufik, who is a part of the national squad for SEA Games, said that he will try to do his best. However, the shuttler also expressed his intention of leaving competitive badminton after next year’s Olympic Games. He said, “[I am] just like a pond, waiting
for its water to run dry. I’m sure I will retire after [taking part in] the 2012 Olympics.”
Indonesian shuttlers will be looking to win all medals in front of their huge home crowd. The support of fans will surely be an advantage for local shuttlers and they will stand a big chance to win glory.
