Badminton Association of Indonesia to select squad for SEA Games - Badminton news
The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) is set to select the top-ten male and ten female shuttlers for the SEA Games (South-East Asian Games) to maintain their dominance in the region. The SEA Games will take place at Jakarta, Indonesia, in November,
2011.
After the poor performance at the 2011 World Championships by Indonesian shuttlers, now, the focus of players will be on the SEA Games to regain their confidence by winning the titles in all categories of the game including Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s
and Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
At the World Championships, Indonesian shuttlers failed to reach in the final of any category as their best performances came in the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. In Men’s Doubles, Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano reached to the semi-final stage, whereas,
in the Mixed Doubles, the World Number Four pair of Lilyana Natsir and Tantowi Ahmad reached at the top-4 stage.
Now, to make a strong team for the SEA Games, Gusti Made Oka, the president of PBSI has announced that the trials will be conducted for the selection shuttlers.
Made Oka said, “We invited all the top shuttlers in the country, not only those who are in the national team right now. Hopefully we can announce the team early next week. We have to name the squad as soon as possible because the shuttlers will have to adjust
their tournament calendars for the SEA Games.”
Yacob Rusdianto, the secretary general of PBSI said, “We want to keep our domination in the region, so we have to go with the best available.”
This domination can only be possible if the Indonesians improve their level of play as their recent performance at the World Championships has made their success quite doubtful in the SEA Games. There will be top shuttlers contesting in the event and the
Indonesian team has to be strong enough to establish their dominance in the region.
The selected shuttlers in the trial will attend the training camp, where they will be provided with the best available training and coaching facilities to overcome their deficiencies and improve their game.
