Badminton Association of Malaysia directs states to supervise Project 2024 – Badminton Update
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has decided to take unusual steps to save badminton future of the country as it directed state bodies to work for Project 2024.
The national body has launched a special programme according to which the youngsters of age 6 to 9 will be selected and prepared for the international arena.
After having meeting with executive committee, BAM president Datuk Nadzmi Salleh briefed the media that states will be supervising this special programme at the local level and they will be searching for raw talent for the next 12 years.
He also added that this programme will be headed by a project manager, new head coach and hoped that this exercise will increase the talent pool.
Nadzmi said, "The 2024 project will be focusing solely on development at the states level and will be supervised by the new project manager. The project is to ensure that players are identified at an early age and groomed to become the core of the national
team."
At the moment, many programmes are ongoing and state badminton associations are getting a handsome amount of RM 30,000 annually but now they will be provided RM 100,000 by Maybank to work on this revised plan of action.
Moreover, another title sponsor Maxis has also vowed to grant RM 1.5 million for the elevation of game’s standards.
Nadzmi appreciated these developments and declared it a good sign for Malaysian badminton. He also hoped that new chief coach will make best out of these resources to refine the ongoing programmes.
He said, "The programmes are already ongoing but will be further fine-tuned with the arrival of the project manager who will be the link to get updates from the states."
Meanwhile, he also stated that BAM is trying to establish local training centres in every state but it depends on the funding as a huge amount will be required to provide such facilities at the grassroots level.
Later, Nadzmi also stated that BAM has done all the paper work and coaching staff has been selected to run this programme in all states.
For the record, BAM executive committee has also decided to drop the idea of bringing a foreign coach and there will be a Malaysian supremo watching the steps of national shuttlers.
