Badminton Association of Malaysia instructs Misbun Sidek to produce top class shuttlers
Malaysia’s Misbun Sidek, the former coach for the Malaysian National squad, will train new talent to produce world class shuttlers. The Badminton Association of Malaysia is expecting Misbun to produce top performing badminton players like top seed, Lee Chong
Wei.
The ex director general of National Sports Council, Mr. Mazlan Ahmad urged Misbun to accept the challenge and prove his worth by producing top class shuttlers from the young talented players. He knows that Misbun possesses the knowledge and expertise to
groom young players as he has extensive experience of more than two decades in the field of coaching.
However, Mazlan is optimistic that BAM will give Misbun a talented group of shuttlers which has the quality to grow.
“It is unfair to him if the BAM give him players who have failed to come good under other coaches,” Mazlan said.
He further added that Misbun should be given the choice to select the players he wants to work with, as the coach knows almost all talented shuttlers and their capacity to grow in the near future.
Misbun, who elevated Lee Chong Wei to the heights of success, is denied to coach Chong Wei who is working with Rashid Sidek and Tey Seu Bock at the moment.
Mazlan said, “And he should be given some time to work with these players. Time will tell whether Misbun is successful or not.” He also added, “This challenge from the BAM should motivate him to soar even higher as a coach.”
The Training and Coaching Committee presented a proposal on Friday that Misbun should work with the young players and the Committee has their confidence in the coach that he can produce top athletes from the second-strength.
Misbun, with his dedicated and committed efforts, transformed Lee Chong Wei from an average player to World Number one. However, the coach resigned from his designation on 31 December, 2010 due to some controversies with CTC. He withdrew from his resignation
last month but he is not appointed as a coach to Chong Wei, rather he is assigned with the responsibility to groom young players.
