Badminton Association of Malaysia intends to elevate female shuttlers for the 2013 Sudirman Cup
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is looking forward to elevate female shuttlers for the 2013 Sudirman Cup, which is the major mixed team championship in the world of badminton. It will take place at Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, for the
first time in the history of this tournament.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has awarded Malaysia hosting of this significant tournament. It is a great opportunity for the local shuttlers to elevate their skill level and become a part of the national team of Malaysia and participate in the Sudirman
Cup.
Ng Chin Chai, the secretary of BAM, intends to focus on elevating the level of female shuttlers in the national squad and wants to grab this chance by performing well in the women’s team event matches.
Both male and female shuttlers need to work hard to avail this opportunity of playing at the home soil and earn glory for the country. Male and female squads in national team need to work on tough training schedules in order to become a tough nut for the
all leading nations in the world of badminton.
Malaysia is currently ranked at number six in the world team rankings. The female shuttlers of Malaysia have also failed to produce good results so far as they never finished in the top four positions in the Sudirman Cup because they lack the impressive
touch on court when they face the shuttlers from leading nations particularly China, Indonesia, Korea and Denmark.
However, this time Chin Chai is determined to make female shuttler strong enough to put up strong show against the leading countries in the mega team tournament.
He said, “As hosts, we want to have a good team to mount a strong challenge. This means, we have to make sure that our players, men and women, are able to fight for every point. In the past, we depended on the men to deliver the points.”
He further added, “But the women have shown a steady rise in standard – especially in the doubles. We need to push for more talents to come through in the women’s singles.”
Malaysia’s national squad of female shuttlers has more than one year ahead to work hard in training sessions and get the highest skills to compete against the top shuttlers of the world.
