Badminton Association of Malaysia launches new evaluation system for badminton players and coaches
Badminton Association of Malaysia has been working on a new evaluation system for the past couple of months and it has revealed that the initiative would be put into practice from the month of March.
The positive step has been taken recently and is given the name of, Key Performance Indicator (KPI). All elite players and back-up shuttlers together with their official coaches will be examined under this system. The purpose of this evaluation system is
to make changes if necessary in the training strategies which will eventually produce better players.
In the past, the assessment of players was examined on the reports submitted by coaches and trainers. Under the new system, every player whether he belongs to the national squad or is a back-up shuttler will have to perform in the events to get high ratings
in the KPI system. This excellent move is appreciated by all former and current officials of BAM, who think that the new performance evaluation system will increase the performance of players and coaches.
Secretary of BAM, Ng Chin Chai, is quite optimistic for the changes made in the evaluation of players, which will force the shuttlers to perform well during the training sessions and in tournaments as well. The Coaching and Training Committee (CTC) appreciates
the change as it will certainly produce good results by pushing players to work hard and find a good standing in the domestic and international rankings.
By utilizing the Key Performance Indicator, BAM will be closely evaluating the performance of the young shuttlers of all categories and the top performers will be promoted to the next level. Now, the performance of the youngsters will not be evaluated merely
on the basis of the domestic events. They will have to perform well in international events to get promoted to the national squad.
Under the KPI system, players and coaches will be assessed at the end of the year. The top shuttlers will be participating in the 14 international tournaments including the BWF World Championships this year, whereas, back-up shuttlers will compete in ten
events. The performance of the players in these tournaments will determine their standing in the national rankings of Malaysia.
The players must achieve the given percentage of performance to step into the next level. The performance of the coaches will be evaluated by CTC itself at the end of the training program. On the issue of filling the space of Men’s Singles player, Muhammad
Hafiz Hashim, the committee has decided to examine the performance of Arif Latif and some other back-up shuttlers under the KPI system at the end of the upcoming year. If Arif shows his commitment in training and performs well in the domestic and international
events, then BAM will promote him to the national team of Malaysia.
