Badminton Association of Malaysia pins future hopes on Zulfadli Zulkifli – Badminton news
Zulfadli Zulkifli’s tremendous performance in the Boy’s Singles draw at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2011 has carried hope for the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) that the shuttler can be a worthy successor to Lee Chong Wei, who is the
World Number One player.
Zulfadli proved that he is confident to step into the Men’s Singles arena in the world, as he has accomplished his task by winning the biggest title in his career at the Asia Junior Championships.
In the whole event, Zulfadli played remarkable badminton as he did not drop even a single set to any opponent and became the first Malaysian who clinched this title in the Boy’s Singles category. His historic win has brought him the confidence of the BAM,
that he will be the future hope for the Men’s Singles squad of Malaysia.
The 18-year-old Zulfadli finished-off the final match of the Asia Junior Championships in tremendous fashion, where he thrashed India’s Verma Sameer in straight games with a margin of 21-15 and 21-17.
After winning the title, Zulfadli expressed his feelings and further plans by saying, “This is a great start for me. I hope to achieve more good results. I still have a long way to go but I am determined to work hard in my mission to become the country’s
top player.”
Malaysia is currently suffering with a dearth of players in the Men’s Singles category, as there is only Chong Wei who is the top shuttler in the world. Apart from Wei, there is no other shuttler from Malaysia who comes even in the top 30 players in the
Men’s Singles category.
This stinging reality casts doubts on the future of Malaysia in this particular category, as the 2012 Olympics event in London might be the last time Wei features in competitive badminton. However, Zulfadli is a ray of hope for Malaysia as he is young and
passionate and by working hard in the right direction, he can raise the Malaysian flag in the Men’s Singles category at international level.
