Badminton Hutt Valley Age Group Championships: Ker’Sara Koh claims Girl’s Singles U17 title
Ker’Sara Koh, a young and talented shuttler from New Zealand, proved her superiority on court as she claimed Girl’s Singles U17 title after defeating her team-mate Christine Zhang in final match at the 2012 Badminton Hutt valley Age Group Championships in
New Zealand, on Sunday, August 26.
The top seeded Ker’Sara, who remained in commanding position throughout the tournament, had to employ all of her skills and remained successful in winning the battle in hard-fought three games.
The higher ranked Ker’Sara played well but not enough to take the opening game. Nevertheless, Ker’Sara played with precision and in the following both sets and eventually won the battle in rubber games with a reasonable margin on score board.
The un-seeded Christine, in the meanwhile, played remarkable badminton in first set but lost her focus in the following games and eventually bowed down to her higher ranked challenger in a respectable fashion.
The opening set of the final battle was absolutely fantastic when both shuttlers played fast and positive badminton and progressed closely until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Ker’Sara tried her best to get a reasonable lead but she failed to manage it as her opponent was in pretty much control of the game. She lost the set with a close margin of 19-21.
In the second set, Ker’Sara showed her brilliance as she employed all of her skills on court and took a smashing lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the top seeded Ker’Sara continued showing her positive play and remained successful in snatching the second game from her rival with a 21-10 score on the board.
In the decider, Ker’Sara again was the first who took a decent lead on score board by playing positive badminton until the one-minute break.
The in-form Ker’Sara continued putting up wonderful show after the one-minute break and remained successful in winning this set with a six-point advantage of 21-15.
The impressive Ker’Sara won the crown by beating Christine in the final match with a remarkable 19-21, 21-10 and 21-15 score on the board.
