Badminton Malaysia: Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif confident to win medal in the SEA Games
Malaysia’s talented back-up shuttler, Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif is confident to win medal at the SEA Games. The event starts from today on November 12, at Jakarta, Indonesia.
Arif Latif, who is currently placed at 59th position in the Men’s Singles world rankings, has been delivering quivering performance for the last six months. However, one thing is certain that he has lifted up his level of play and is determined
to play top quality badminton in the SEA Games.
In the category of team event, Indonesian shuttlers are favourites to win the medal however; the spirited Malaysian said that beating them is not impossible at all. He personally has set the target to win the medal for his country by delivering his hundred
percent in all matches in the tournament.
Malaysia has been placed at the second position in the team event’s seeding. Indonesian team has been given the top position in the SEA Games. Both teams will face each other not before the team event’s final of the tournament.
While talking about his targets, Arif said that he wants to win the medal in Jakarta. He knows that Indonesian shuttlers are favourites but he is optimistic to put up strong show against them.
He said, "I've come here with my own personal target, to win a medal. We will try to do as we best as we can, try to score an upset. Indonesia are definitely the favourites, they've got world class players. But that is not to say we can't match them. The
only thing we might be lacking is experience. It will be difficult to beat them but not impossible."
He further added, "I realise I have to be more consistent in terms of results and performances. It is a bit of up and down at the moment and consistency is key to reaching the top."
IF things proceed according to the paper, Malaysian team of male shuttlers will play against Vietnam in the quarter-final of the team event. If they win, their semi-final opponents will be the shuttlers from Singapore. The final battle for the team event
title is expected to be played between Malaysia and Indonesia.
