Badminton latest; Saina Nehwal makes her way into quarters in Hong Kong
The 20-year-old Saina Nehwal of India has made her way into the quarterfinal round of the 2010 Hong Kong Super Series event after posting a straight set win over Slakjit Ponsana from Thailand on Thursday. The final score line was 21-10, 21-12.
Currently ranked number two in the Badminton World Federation rankings, the Indian sensation previously won her first round match against Chan  in two sets with a match score of 21-16 21-18. The clash concluded in a time period of almost half an hour.
Ponsana, on the other hand, set up her second round match against Saina after getting the better of Hsiao Huan Chen in straight sets. The final match score was 21-18 21-13.
Saina is the first badminton player from India who reached the singles quarterfinal at the Olympic Games apart from winning the World Junior Badminton Championships. The Hisar born set her name in the annals of history back on June last year, after becoming
the first Indian to capture the Indonesia Open with a superb win over Wang Lin.
She is recently coming off her gold medal win at the multi discipline Commonwealth Games, held in New Delhi back in October. The Indian capped gold for her country after beating Mew Choo Wong of Malaysia 19-21, 23-21, 21-13 in the finals and thus added another
unforgettable moment in India's badminton history.
World number two stormed into the quarters at the Hong Kong Super series event on Thursday as a result of playing superior badminton than her opponent. Saina looked confident right from the start of the match and thus sealed win in the end.
In the men’s action, Commonwealth Games bronze winner P Kashyap has already won the first hurdle posting three game victory over Yu Hsing Hsieh of China. The Indian fought past his Chinese foe 21-14 19-21 21-18 in one hour and four minutes of play.
He is scheduled to take on the fifth seed Jin Chen of China later in the day. The other two Indians, however, couldn’t perform up to the mark as Aravind Bhat fell down to Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 13-21 21-23 where as Gurusaidutt despite putting up a strong
show was eventually defeated by Wing Ki Wong12-21 21-19 13-21.
