Badminton news: Winning a gold medal in Olympic Games remains a major target for Lee Chong Wei
Malaysia’s only hope for winning a gold medal in Olympic Games 2012 is Lee Chong Wei, who is struggling hard to overcome his shoulder injury he received in the All England Open earlier this month.
Chong Wei, who is the top shuttler in Men’s Singles world rankings, could not win his third consecutive title in All England Open because of this unusual injury and retired from playing in the second game of title match against China’s Lin Dan.
He has been working off court trainings for the last 10 days and resumed his court training yesterday. However, the final decision of his training routine will be scheduled after the report of doctors.
Malaysia never won a gold medal in Olympic Games in any category of the game and this time Chong Wei stands a firm chance to end Malaysia’s title draught in this prestigious event.
Chong Wei has been enjoying the top position in badminton world for the last four years and is expected to remain the top seed in Olympic Games as well.
The mega event will take place in July-August at Wembley Indoor Arena in London.
While talking about his performance at the All England Open 2012, Chong Wei said that he was dejected as it was a chance for him to complete his hat-trick but an unusual shoulder injury hampered his chance and he had to quit.
He said, "I was really disappointed for failing to win the All England. It is a new injury and I didn't expect it to happen in an important tournament and that too after having prepared well to win the hat-trick."
He added, "I felt a bit tired after the quarter-finals on Friday and my right shoulder felt heavy and painful. It got worse but I had to continue playing but I just couldn't push anymore in the final. However, I have several months before the Olympics and
I want to be well prepared to battle for the gold in London.”
Chong Wei is focused to live up to expectations in Olympic Games. To prepare well for the mega event, he will start his usual hard work in training sessions soon.
