Badureliya Sports Club v Moors Sports Club – Premier Limited Over Tournament, 2012/13 (Group A) – Match Update – Moors Sports Club claims easy 5-wicket win
A fluent unbeaten century at the top from Shehan Jayasuriya saw the Moors Sports Club claiming a comprehensive 5-wicket win over the Badureliya Sports Club, in their Group A match during the ongoing Premier Limited Over Tournament, played at the Moors Sports Club Ground in Colombo on December 30.
The Moors SC won the toss and chose to field first, with Vimukthi Perera (9-0-35-4) leading the charge, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paulage-Malinda-Pushpakumara-c81242 (10-1-42-2) chipped in with a supporting performance. Sebastian Perera (11) and Pabasara Waduge (30) got their team’s innings off to a decent start, but their opening partnership was abruptly cut off at 42 in the 9th over, when Jayasuriya intervened to take Perera out of the game.
V Perera kept the wickets coming by snapping up both Gayan de Silva (1) and Waduge, leaving the visitors at 54 for 3. However, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paththini-Kuttige-Jude-Ruwantha-Nilushan-Nonis-c80818 (21) offered the team some respite with a fourth-wicket partnership worth 52 runs.
Their combined efforts got the team total into triple figures, but Nonis was soon taken out of the game by Pushpakumara, followed swiftly by wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pithigala-Arachchi-Saliya-Saman-Jeewantha-c82310 (22) and Ruvinda Shamen (29) managed to add decently to the team total, and joined Wijeratne for solid partnerships.
However, Saman soon found himself caught and bowled by Pushpakumara, Wijeratne was finally dislodged by Perera, and Shamen made his exit off Chaturanga de Silva, leaving the team at 191 for 8. Some final contributions from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Panagamuwa-Lihiru-Sampath-Gamage-c80675 (1*) got the team past the 200-run mark, and enabled them to post a final total of 218 before they were all out by the end of 50 overs.
The target was decent enough, but opening batsman Shehan Jayasuriya got the Moors SC off to a solid start and drove the entire innings with an unbeaten 107. Fellow opener Isham Ghouse was unable to contribute, and found himself dismissed by duck in the very first over, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Liyanabadlge-Janaka-Prabath-Gunaratne-c73032 (33) racked up a sizeable score.
Jayasuriya guided the team through with ease, and found solid partners in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pinnaduwage-Chaturanga-de-Silva-c82299 (9*). Within 40 overs, the Moors SC comfortably managed to reach 219, with 5 wickets and 64 balls remaining.
