Bae Yeon Ju casts out P. V. Sindhu in pre quarter-finals of 2012 Yonex Japan Open
Korea’s Bae Yeon Ju employed all of her brilliance and experience in the game and snatched a quarter-final spot from P. V. Sindhu in the Yonex Japan Open on September 20, 2012.
This Women’s Singles encounter kept both shuttlers busy on court for 52 minutes and ended with a decisive score position of 10-21, 21-12 and 21-18.
There was lot of drama throughout this nerve-racking tussle as at first the young Indian campaigner gained an early advantage but then Yeon Ju switched on her best and locked the honour by prevailing in the last two games.
World Number eleven Korean shuttler took some time to read her rival’s game but she came out of this bad patch when it mattered.
On the other hand, the lower ranked but spirited Sindhu took off in perfect manner but she could not continue with the same flow and surrendered in crucial moments.
In first set of the match, she unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes which fetched eight valuable points in a row.
This deficit proved too heavy to lift for Yeon Ju as she knelt down after reading an overwhelming score of 10-21 on the board.
Interestingly, this blow pushed the Korean shuttler to put her best in the very next game to avoid an early exit.
Yeon Ju made her intentions clear by prevailing in five consecutive rallies after 0-3 and then doubled her lead by piling up a mountainous total of 11 at half time.
After one-minute interval, she strengthened her grip with 14-10 margin and capitalised this advantage to keep her challenger grounded until the game point situation.
Sindhu strived hard to bounce back but she could not reinstate her dominance and surrendered after reading concluding figure of 12-21.
Yeon Ju did not lose this touch in the decider and outclassed the opposing shuttler on merit. She launched a brisk attack and got into commanding position after putting a decent total of 11-4.
This initial lead helped her to place a final margin of 21-18 to setup a next round clash with the Japanese player Eriko Hirose in the quarter-finals.
