Bae Yeon Ju struggles against Jing Yi Tee in Women’s Singles Group B match at 2012 London Olympics
Korea’s talented shutter Bae Yeon Ju was not at her best when she played in her first match in Women’s Singles Group B as she had to work really hard to win against Malaysia’s lower ranked opponent Jing Yi Tee at the 2012 London Olympics on Saturday, July
28, at London, England.
Yeon Ju, who has been placed at number 12 in Women’s Singles world rankings at the moment, escaped a nightmare as she employed all of her skills to get rid of her World Number 61 opponent who put up strong show.
The higher ranked Yeon Ju could not found an expected start as she lost the first game but managed to find a good rhythm and secured the following games to overpower her spirited Malaysian opponent in three games.
On the other hand, Jing Yi showed a wonderful performance in her first match at Olympic Games as she won the opening set from her higher ranked Korean opponent.
However, the Malaysian shuttler failed to occupy the driving seat in the following both sets and lost the match with a reasonable margin.
The opening set of this Women’s Singles clash was interesting when the underdog Jing Yi put up staggering show and dominated the pace of rallies from all areas.
The 11th seeded Yeon Ju could not put up strong show in opening game as she failed to push her rival on back foot and eventually lost the game with a 16-21 score on the board.
In the following set, Yeon Ju played composed badminton which remaining quick in her movement in all corners of the court and she managed a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, the Korean player continued her dominating run and did not let Jing Yi to play normal game and eventually bagged the set with a good margin of 21-15.
In the deciding game, it was Yeon Ju who was in complete control of rallies and she easily managed to take the set with a one-sided 21-12 score on the board.
Yeon Ju emerged as the winner in this Group B match in three games with a decent margin of 16-21, 21-15 and 21-12.
