Bae Youn Joo hands Saina opening round defeat in the China Open Premier Super Series
Korea’s Bae Youn Joo has displayed a stunning performance as she has handed India’s Saina Nehwal a convincing defeat in the Women’s Singles first round of the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series, in Shanghai, on Wednesday, November 23.
In the four head-to-head meetings, the World Number 10 Korean has won her first one against the Indian, when she ousted the World Number Four Saina in the opening round of the China Open. She played to her full potential and emerged as the winner in a mouth-watering rubber-set fight that lasted for 61 minutes.
The Indian played superb badminton in the first game and won it with a convincing score. However, the Korean remained lucky in the second game as she won it with a narrow difference. In the final set of this wonderful fight, the Korean delivered phenomenal performance and bagged the game in style.
Both shuttlers played fast rallies in the opening points and progressed closely. However, Saina controlled the pace of the game and started to dictate the bird in all areas of the court. Her planned game was just impressive as she spared no chance for the Korean to play aggressive badminton. Youn Joo failed to produce attacking play and lost the game with a margin of 15-21.
In the following set, both ladies grabbed the interest of the huge crowd by presenting superb show of attacking badminton. They remained close from the opening points to the concluding phase without managing a comfortable lead. Both employed everything they had at this crucial stage and it was Youn Joo who remained lucking in winning the set with a dramatic 24-22 score on the board.
In the final game, Saina played well throughout the opening half and was leading with a 15-12 margin. At this stage, the Korean lifted up her level of play and surprised the higher ranked Indian by scoring nine consecutive points to bag the final set with a superb score of 21-15.
The Korean won her first match against Saina as she delivered remarkable performance and won the fascinating opening-round fight was 15-21, 24-22 and 21-15.
