Bae Youn Joo ousts Ai Goto in Women’s Singles semi-final showdown in Australian Open GP Gold
Korea’s Bae Youn Joo showed her aggressive performance in the semi-final contest when she ousted Japan’s emerging player Ai Goto at the 2012 Australian Open GP Gold on Saturday, April 7, in Australia.
The fifth seeded Youn Joo, who is currently ranked at number 14 in Women’s Singles world ranking, put up remarkable show of flawless game and ended the match with considerable ease.
The higher ranked Korean employed her experience and manipulated the loopholes of her rival by playing with precision. She wrapped up this contest in just 32 minutes without dropping any set.
On the other hand, Goto could not maintain her impressive performance in the semi-final showdown as she failed to create gaps in her rival’s court and lost the battle with a big margin.
In the first set, Youn Joo started her campaign in a completely controlled manner and played with aggression. She executed powerful strokes and did not let her rival to take the bird early.
Until the mid-game interval in the opening set, Youn Joo was moving far ahead on the board by reaching at 11-5.
After the break, the Korean continued snapping Goto’s heel without showing any mercy as she played with aggression and also kept the tempo of rallies at the maximum level.
Youn Joo won the opening set in a commanding way by a remarkable 21-13 margin on the score board.
In the second game, Goto played well this time by becoming quicker in all areas of the court and remained equal to her higher ranked Korea opponent until 7-7.
At this stage, Youn Joo changed her game plan and played superb net shots. This strategy worked well and she managed to disturb the flow of her rival. Until the break, Youn Joo was ahead on the board at 11-7.
After the interval, Youn Joo continued her attacking game and ended it with a one-sided score of 21-12.
The fifth seeded Korean won this semi-final clash with an impressive 21-13 and 21-12 score on the board.
In the title match, Youn Joo will lock horns against China’s Li Han who outplayed Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in another semi-final showdown.
