Baek Choel, Yeon Seong rule in Men’s Doubles event of 2013 Thailand Open – Badminton news
Korea’s Shin Baek Choel and Yoo Yeon Seong joined hands in the Men’s Doubles event of SCG Thailand Open and claimed the crown on Sunday, June 9, 2013.
They locked horns with a Russian duo Vladimir Ivanov-Ivan Sozonov and their meeting prolonged to 58 minutes in local badminton complex of Bangkok, Thailand. Initially, the Korean campaigners were out of touch as the lost first set with 18-21 score. However,
they revived their lost chemistry in ending two games and won this match with an impressive result of 21-15 and 21-14.
The twosome of Vladimir and Ivan looked at its best in the opening game but both shuttlers could not show consistency and squandered a golden opportunity of a straight-set win. In the first set of match, they played impeccable badminton and established their
grip immediately.
They did not lose focus in next couple of rallies and piled a decent total way before the announcement of one-minute break. The latter part of the game was also dominated by the Russian shuttlers as they swept the table with a favourable figure of 21-18.
However, things changed in the following game as the opposing team showed a transformed character and levelled the match score. This time the partnership of Baek Choel and Yeon Seong flourished and they dazzled the opposing duo with a lustrous performance.
They started the beating immediately in the establishing rallies and played with authoritative approach all the way to game point situation. At first, they mounted pressure by registering an overwhelming total of 11 and then doubled the impact with a staggering
knock in the latter part of the game.
Baek Choel and Yeon Seong maintained a significant difference of six points and wrapped this segment of the showdown with a concluding score of 21-15.
The decider proved just a replay of second set as both teams were poles apart in terms of performance. The Korean campaigners did not show any laziness and pushed their challengers in all areas of the court.
They raised their chances of success with a decent figure of 11 and then earned the right to raise Men’s Doubles trophy with 21-14 margin.
