Baek Choel, Yeon Seong trounce Kien Keat, Boon Heong in title match – Denmark Open Update
Men’s Doubles experts Shin Baek Choel and Yoo Yeon Seong continued with their top form and fetched the Yonex Denmark Open title after beating Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong on October 21, 2012.
This final match was played in local badminton complex of Odense, Denmark as both teams made the crowd gasp with a mesmerising performance in this 66-minute tussle.
The concluding figures of 19-21, 21-11 and 21-19 clearly shows their honest effort in three exhausting games.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who were hot favourites for this title, took a great start and bagged first match point but their fluctuated performance in last two sets ultimately led them to a woeful defeat.
On the other hand, the Korean duo locked the honour despite being an unseeded team of this Premier Super Series.
Baek Choel and Yeon Seong took some time to understand their rivals’ strategy but they employed an effective counter-attack game plan when it mattered and sent the Malaysians packing.
In first set of the match, they looked a bit confused and this cost them a valuable match point.
Meanwhile, World Number six pair Kien Keat-Boon Heong employed all of their experience and brilliance in the game and won this crucial set with 21-19 score on the board.
However, it proved their last success in this tournament as the opposing team showed a transformed character in following games and stole the limelight with a lustrous performance.
The Korean duo laid the foundation of their supremacy straight away in the beginning and maintained the upper hand until last shot was played.
Baek Choel and Yeon Seong put their competitors under huge pressure by placing an indomitable total of 11-6.
They did not lose focus at any stage of the game and served notice of their potential with a staggering knock of 21-11.
Third set was full of drama as both contenders put all in their possession to oust the opponent and did not allow each other to gain a permanent lead.
This nerve-racking set concluded when Baek Choel and Yeon Seong struck hard and sealed their victory with 21-19 score.
