Jean-Michel Aulas wanted to sell the France international this summer but the striker has professed his love for Olympique Lyonnais and is looking to stay at the club longer than expected
In adversity, he never gave up and that’s what defines France international Bafetimbi Gomis. The striker joined Olympique Lyonnais from archrivals AS Saint-Etienne and despite living under the shadow of Argentine hitman Lisandro Lopez, Gomis has proved to
be a real asset to Remi Garde’s side.
A few nights back in a Europa League encounter with Sparta Prague, the 27-year-old tried his luck eight times and even missed a very easy opportunity. However, with his perseverance and obstinacy, the France international finally found the goal he was searching
for with a beautiful header.
Although it was a complicated evening for him, Gomis did pretty well and scored a goal which he wanted to on the eve of the birth of his first child. In short, Gomis is a happy man after facing quite an agitated summer, with rumours linking him with a move
away from Stade de Gerland.
Even though http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 were willing to sell the player to a few clubs, Gomis declined to even talk to their representatives in a bid to make his mark on the club. During a press conference, the striker admitted that he is relishing being left between
the Rhone and Saone.
Going until the end of December, Gomis can work peacefully and the player says that he wanted to stay at OL despite knowing that the club had opened the door for a departure. Knowing that Aulas wanted to sell him, Gomis says that he holds no grudges as he
understands that it was more of a financial decision considering the club’s financial woes.
“I had a lot of reasons to stay. I know that the club had opened the door for a possible departure. But sportingly, I did the right thing not to be undesirable. I’m not vindictive against this. The president understood my position. He is not bad, he did
not force me to go at any price.”
Ambitious as ever, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international is satisfied with his performance so far in the campaign and is confident that along with Lisandro Lopez, they can form a formidable striking partnership.
