Baffert will load up as many as he can to win the CashCall Futurity
The 2012 Breeders’ Cup World Championships was something to quickly forget for veteran horseman, Bob Baffert, who had the horses to win as many races as he could, especially when such an event was taking place at his own backyard, but not a single victory
made him all philosophical and all, but such a major let down would have left him fuming, and his decision to load up the gate of the Grade 1, $750,000 CashCall Futurity speaks for itself, as what sort of impact Breeders’ Cup disappointment has left on the
conditioner.
However, moving on is the name of the game and positive results help fade away disappointments. Baffert is reloading and setting his sights on the 15 December event a Betfair Hollywood Park.
The 2-year-old Carving, who is jointly owned by Baffert’s wife, Jill and the ski great, Bode Miller, and the owners were on the track today when their colt ran down the Real Quiet Stakes field to win the event.
“I met Bob a long time ago in Kentucky and we talked about getting a horse for years, but my budget is bit smaller than most,” Miller said. “We were kind of waiting to see if we could find one that he thought had potential, but I wasn’t going to break the
bank for our first horse. I told him I required him to go 50-50 so I knew he wouldn’t throw me some snail.”
The son of Any Given Saturday, Carving, was made to sit out the Breeders’ Cup to run in the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes, in which he finished fourth, was purchased in a auction in May for $55,000. In his 4 career starts, Carving has gone on to win 3 times
thus far.
Real Quiet Stakes was a real boost for Baffert and Carving, who amassed $60,000 for winning the race, and his bankroll was shot up to $129,900, already.
“This horse has really been a surprise,” Baffert said. “He shows much more in the afternoons than the morning. He gets outworked by everybody.”
Another possibility for the CashCall Futurity from Baffert’s barn could be the impressive maiden winner, War Academy, and currently at Santa Anita, he might not disappoint his trainer, yet again.
