Bagai gives in Team Canada’s captaincy
As a result of the ubiquitous call for change, Ashish Bagai has voluntarily abrogated the leadership of Team Canada. However, he will continue his role as a wicket keeper batsman. Bagai’s captaincy has been under question since the team’s lackluster World
Cup campaign that have rendered them unable to qualify for the 2015 edition of the mega tournament.
The Indian-born cricketer did not want to be hurdle in team’s progress despite the fact that his individual performance had been commendable throughout his captaincy tenure. Bagai took over as captain in 2009.
In a letter to his national cricket board, the former skipper wrote, “I undertook each task over the last two years with the primary objective of moving not just the team but also the entire organization forward. I have always had a passion for Canadian
cricket and did what I thought would benefit the team and organization in my opinion."
Bagai poses to be the top scorer of Canada in ODI cricket. His performance behind the stumps and before the stumps enabled the Canadian to make inroads in the World Cup where, unfortunately, his teammates did not cooperated with him and thus collapsed.
However, Bagai considers his leadership experience as a great honour. Despite being an alien, he got profuse respect from both the cricket management and fans of Canada.
He told, “It has been an honour to captain my country in the sport I love and I thank everyone in this organization who helped and supported me throughout my term including administrators, coaches, managers and most of all, the players.”
Bagai suffered from patella femoral syndrome in 2009 but did not got surgery in order to ensure his availability for 2011 World Cup. Now the problem has much aggravated.
The president of Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748, Ranjit Saini, has appreciated Bagai’s efforts that he has been making for the uplift of the team. He has also paid homage to the outgoing skipper.
Born on 26 January, 1982, Bagai made his international debut in 2003 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. In 60 ODIs, he has 1961 runs with 2 tons and 16 fifties to his credit.
