i will be going to india in a couple of days, well the thing is that as i shall be flying from san francisco to newark by united airlines and from newark to mumbai by air india, now the question is that do i have to receive my luggage at newark airport and then carry it and get it checked in newark, once i get it checked in san francisco.i have only 2 hrs in between arriving at newark airport, going through immigration and catching air india? is 2 hrs ok for all these procedures and also do i have to get my luggage rechecked in newark? Basically what does interline baggage mean?does it mean eg: that once i get my luggage checked in san francisco i will be able to receive it directly in mumbai?

  1. Interline baggane agreement means that you can check your bag in in SFO and not see it again until you arrive in BOM. United will probably even issue your boarding card in SFO for your EWR flight because Air India and United are both part of the star airline alliance. certain airlines have formed alliances to make international travel more seemless for the passenger. Also, you do not need to clear US customs or immigration to exit the US.  So in newark you can just carryon to your connecting flight not picking up your bag and not dealing with Customs and immigration.

    Hope this helps
