Bahamas men’s national team in murky waters: VI Pan American Cup – Volleyball news
The Bahamas men’s national volleyball team is not having a great time playing volleyball these days. The last two matches that it played turned out to be disappointing losses in the VI Pan American Men's Volleyball Cup that is currently taking place in Quebec,
Canada.
The first of the defeats was handed out to Bahamas by the USA, who won the match by securing three back to back sets over their rivals. The match was played on Monday and was part of the NORCECA Tournament. If Bahamas thought they could redeem themselves
by playing Argentina on Wednesday, they were wrong. Argentina proved to be the better team as they too made a clean sweep over the Bahamas and won the day.
Unfortunately for the Bahamas team, the competition with the defending champions USA was too much to handle. Bahamas could not come to terms with the strong and skillful play of the USA and lost each of the three sets quite miserably. The final set scores
at the end of the match stood at the following points: 25-14, 25-12 and 25-12.
Despite the fact that Bahamas was smothered by the USA, the Bahamas head coach, Raymond Wilson, looked at it positively and said, "It was a privilege for us to play the USA. It allowed us to see where we are at and what we need to do in order to compete."
The second of the two losses was a bit more respectful for Bahamas. They came out strong in the opening set of the game and were able to give Argentina some tough competition. However, it was Argentina that prevailed in the first set. However, Bahamas performance
experienced a progressive downfall in the next two sets and they could not do much to stop Argentina from sealing the deal on the match at 25-20, 25-16 and 25-9.
Wilson analyzed the match against Argentina and said, "We have some talented players. At this level, you have to also be resilient and have consistency. We started all right but coming down to the end of the match, we made some simple mistakes. That just
took us out."
The players that have stood out in the Bahamas line up are Prince Wilson, Said Knowles and Shedrick Forbes. Wilson was able to lead his team by making a total of seven points while playing against the USA whereas Knowles and Forbes each were able to add
six of their own.
Next in line for Bahamas is a match that will be played today to decide the position Bahamas would be able to secure for itself in the tournament. However, it will not be until Saturday that the tournament will see its close.
