Bahamian Lad upsets Hawk Moth, Chookie Avon in Play Roulette At bluesq.com/casino Handicap at Wolverhampton
Bahamian Lad upset the joint favourites to grab a close victory in the Play Roulette At bluesq.com/casino Handicap, hosted by Wolverhampton on Monday, February 20, 2012.
The seven-year-old dominated the proceedings thoughout the event, not letting his rivals spoil his party at any moment.
With nine runners, the 7-furlong race started off at 18:00 (GMT).
Soon after the beginning, the champion horse got hold of a decent lead. Since it was a short distance competition, a small advantage was enough for Bahamian Lad to take the victory.
Ahead of the race, he was given the odds of 8-1, relatively lower than the joint favourites. Hawk Moth and Chookie Avon were holding the highest odds of 4 to 1. Despite not being the most preferred contestant, the gelding ran impeccably, maintaining a quick
speed from pillar to post.
Hawk Moth gave him a tough competition at the end moments but Reg Hollinshead’s trainee eventually sealed the top position by three quarters of a length. By winning the race, Bahamian Lad earned a purse worth of £2,264.15.
Hawk Moth salvaged some respect by finishing second on the table. The four-year-old held up towards the rear, allowing the triumphant to take a handsome lead.
Despite the fact that John Spearing’s trainee came up with a strong performance later in the contest, he was unable to overtake the champion. Consequently, he emerged as runner-up, winning a cash prize of £673.75.
Fleetwoodsands ended up third just by head’s margin. The five-year-old gelding slowly picked up the momentum after taking a lethargic start.
The Milton Bradley-trained was also carrying the odds of 8-1 but failed to display what Bahamian Lad did. He pocketed £336.70 by sealing third place.
The joint favourite, Chookie Avon could only manage to secure sixth position in the list. Richard Fahey’s gelding chased the leaders early on but could not perk up his speed after that. The five-year-old stayed on same pace and consequently failed to finish
among top five.
Due to his three consecutive poor performances at the end of last year, Bahamian Lad’s connections would have been seriously disappointed. However, the seven-year-old delighted them this time around, winning his first race of the season comfortably.
