A half-ton from Imranullah Aslam, and a massive team effort from the Bahawalpur Stags’ bowling attack enabled their team to claim a 19-run win over the Rawalpindi Rams, in their match during the Faysal Bank T-20 Cup which kicked off today on December 1,
played at Bagh-e-Jinnah in Lahore.
The match kicked off with the Rams winning the toss and choosing to field first – however, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665 (all of whom claimed one scalp each), the Stags
still managed to work their way up to a competitive 173.
Opener Hamid Ali (13) was unable to apply himself at the crease for long, but Imranullah Aslam top-scored with a massive 89 off 53, including 2 lofty sixes, and 12 well-timed fours. His 47-run opening stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Agha-Hamid-Ali-c42257 came to an end with the latter’s
dismissal at the hands of Samiullah in the 5th over, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imranullah-Aslam-c64264 powered on, going on to set up a series of solid partnerships.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Tariq-Chaudhry-c94705 (12) kept the innings moving forward, teaming up with Aslam for a 35-run
partnership.
Samiullah claimed Usman Tariq as his second victim of the day in the 14th over, but the Stags’ innings did not falter at any point. Moinuddin chipped in with an 18-run contribution, in addition to joining Aslam for a 44-run stand for the 4th
wicket.
Their combined efforts saw the Stags’ total swelling to 156, after which http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Amin-c94597 in the very next over. Aided by some minor final contributions
from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Hussain-Shah-c70129 (3*) the Stags worked their way up to a first innings total of 173 by the end of 20 overs.
Bahawalpur followed their batting performance up with a successful defence of their total – all six bowlers in the attack managed to pick up at least one scalp each, while Kashif Siddiq (4-0-22-3) and Ataullah (4-0-19-2) played starring roles.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Naeem-c47131 (14) was the highlight of the team’s innings, and following the dismissals of both batsmen, a slew of disappointing
performances ensued.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Awais-Zia-c46838 had already been dismissed on duck, and middle-order batsmen Umar Amin (4), Hammad Azam (5), and Umar Waheed (2) also failed to put up much of a fight. Skipper Sohail Tanvir remained uninspiring, with a mere 11-run contribution, and Mohammad
Nawaz (2) made a swift exit.
Lower-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Arafat-c98241 (27*) gave the team some hope with a 53-run stand, but it went in vain as the Rams only managed to reach 154 by the end of 20 overs, with the Stags going on to secure a 19-run victory.
