Bahrain GP chairman Zayed Alzayani criticises Max Mosley’s comment about Carlos Gracia – Formula 1
Bahrain Grand Prix chairman Zayed Alzayani has criticised former International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Max Mosley for the comments he made about Spanish Motor Sport Federation head, Carlos Gracia.
Zayed while attending the Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season stated that Mosley’s comments about Carlos Gracia were very naive.
Mosley voiced concern over the security conditions in Bahrain and stated that the man sent by the FIA to check the security conditions cannot speak English or Arabic. Mosley also stated that the Human Rights conditions in Bahrain were not right for the race
to be held there.
Zayed said, “That shows you how naive Max Mosley is. There were translators there. I don't have to speak Chinese to do business in China. I think Max has a grudge against Bahrain because he was officially asked by the Crown Prince not to attend the grand
prix.”
He further added that the Human Rights conditions in Bahrain are very good now and could have been better in October when the race was going to be held as the FIA decided but the Formula 1 teams decided not to race there.
Zayed added that the Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone tried out hard for the race to get a date in the 2011 calendar but Formula 1 teams and people like Mosley were the ones against the race.
Talking about Bernie, Zayed commented, “He said, 'There is resistance from the teams but if you want I'll push for it. We'll get it sorted.' He even gave us the option of holding it on December 4. This was never about Bernie losing money by not having a
race in Bahrain.”
The Bahrain Grand Prix was to be the season opener in March 2011 but soon it was decided that it will be postponed due to the unrest in the country. At that point, almost all the Formula 1 teams stated that they will be happy to race in Bahrain later in
2011.
However, as the FIA decided a date in October 2011 for Bahrain, the F1 teams voted against it.
For the 2012 season though, the Bahrain GP is back on the Formula 1 calendar.
