Bahrain Grand Prix officials ready to host race, waiting for date in 2011 calendar – Formula 1
The officials of the Bahrain Grand Prix are ready to host a Formula 1 race in the 2011 season.
This was confirmed by the Chairman of the Bahrain International Circuit Zayed Rashid Alzayani. He also said that for the first time in 2011, conditions in the kingdom were back to normal and a race can now be organised.
Alzayani stated, “Formula 1 has always been a time where Bahrain showcases itself to the world not only as a sports arena but as society, a community that Bahrain as a nation has to offer. Formula 1 can bring back joy to the country.”
He also said that the conditions of the country were not satisfactory for the crown prince to hold the Formula 1 race in the month of March 2011.
“Things have calmed down tremendously in Bahrain. Life is back to normal. We are happy to have the race anytime really. We went through a rough patch and we need nice moments in our history now for the nation,” commented Alzayani.
Still the final verdict of the World Motor Sport Council is to be made public on June 3, 2011 when the committee sits in Barcelona.
Although many teams are still voicing against the rescheduling of Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2011 season, Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is more than satisfied to squeeze Bahrain in, even at the cost of the Indian Grand Prix.
Ecclestone also stated that the season finale in Brazil can be pushed back to early December to help bring Bahrain back to the calendar.
Ecclestone is so much eager to reinstate Bahrain that he is becoming the only voice in favour of the struggling nation. Right after the postponement of the race in early March, the 80-year-old Formula 1 head stated that Bahrain will return to the 2011 calendar
so that the struggling nation does not feel alone.
Nevertheless, the final decision about the Bahrain Grand Prix is still to be made in the month of June and a strong reaction from the Formula 1 teams is expected in case the race does get a date. Let’s see how it transpires.
