Bahrain Grand Prix organisers give up hope for the 2011 season – Formula 1 news
Bahrain Grand Prix chairman Zayed R Alzayani has now said that he is not hopeful that the grand prix will take place in the Kingdom in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Zayed stated that the World Motor Sports Council decision on Bahrain and then the reaction of the Formula 1 teams clearly suggest that the race is not on for this season.
He said that Bahrain would have loved to schedule a race for the Formula 1 world but after the circumstances that have developed around the Kingdom, it is not desirable to add Bahrain in the 2011 calendar.
“Bahrain has absolutely no desire to see a race which would further extend the calendar season [and] detract from the enjoyment of F1 for drivers, teams or supporters. We want our role in Formula 1 to continue to be as positive and constructive as it has
always been,” explained Zayed.
He further added that the decision of the WMSC was taken respectfully but still Bahrain is not in a situation to schedule a race in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Since the rising controversies about the Bahrain race being rescheduled in the 2011 calendar, Formula 1 teams and Human Rights activists have voiced against it.
Zayed also said that the Formula 1 world will be welcomed in Bahrain in the next year.
“We look forward to welcoming teams, their drivers and supporters back to Bahrain next year and would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our supporters, including staff, volunteers, sponsors, private businesses and the general public, for whom I know
this year's decision will be a disappointment,” commented Zayed.
Zayed stated that Bahrain is thankful to the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for their support with the decision but unfortunately, the race cannot be reinstated.
Still the final verdict from the WMSC is still to hit the news but it is expected that the inaugural Indian Grand Prix will be back in October and the season will conclude in November.
