Bahrain Grand Prix still in uncertainty - Formula 1 news
Uncertainty for the re-scheduling of the 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix still prevails. There were speculations that during this week, FIA will come up with a verdict for the Bahrain round, however, nothing has yet been decided.
Reports earlier today revealed that FIA have told the Bahrain authorities to confirm until May 1 if they will be able to host a race this year or not. The FIA officials assured that the race could be re-scheduled at the end of the season between the Abu
Dhabi Grand Prix and the Brazilian round, but only if the country is in a more stable state by then.
A statement issued by FIA earlier this morning said, "The Bahrain Motor Federation to communicate by May 1 at the latest if the Bahrain Grand Prix can be organised in 2011".
Appreciating the support and consideration that the Formula 1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone and FIA has shown for the country, the Bahrain circuit boss, Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa said, "I am very happy that we have been given more time by the FIA to
accomplish our national goals, so that we may hopefully stage our grand prix later this year. When things get better, we will do what we can to be back on the race calendar. While it is important for us to have our race, our complete concentration right now
must be on a national dialogue."
The country was actually supposed to host the curtain raiser of the 2011 season on March 13. However, in mid February, pro-democracy supporters hit the streets and anti-government rallies broke out in the country; with protestors camping at Manama's Pearl
Square.
Moreover, the British Foreign Office also advised its citizens not to travel to the state unless it is essential. Already most of the foreigners in the country have left for an uncertain time. Although discussions between the pro-democracy movements and
Bahrain authorities have opened, yet, it is too early to say when things would be more stable.
Nevertheless, Ecclestone is still determined that the race is only postponed and not cancelled. He believes that soon the Formula 1 caravan will be ready to enter the country.
