Bahrain International Circuit offers to rehire suspended employees – Formula 1 news
The Bahrain International Circuit has announced that it will be offering to rehire the workers who were terminated in 2011 due to their part in the protests in the country.
During the 2011 season, the opening Grand Prix was supposed to be held at Bahrain but the civil unrest in the country caused for a postponement initially. Later on after some stiff opposition from media and local government Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone
decided to cancel the Bahrain Grand Prix for the 2011 season.
For the upcoming 2012 season, Ecclestone has remained adamant that he will most probably be going to Bahrain. Recent developments have created similar hurdles that were created in 2011. The difference is that the Human Rights Center in Bahrain maintains
that the situation in the country is still dire.
Whereas the local government and the Bahrain organisers are adamant that the situation has been neutralised and the government is taking all the necessary steps to swiftly put an end to the situation.
Amid all the confusion, BIC has decided to give back the jobs of those employees who were suspended during the protests held in the country in order to eradicate any animosity left to create any disruptions for the Bahrain GP which still has an unclear future
in the 2012 calendar.
“The Bahrain International Circuit today (Wednesday) announced that it has reinstated employees who had previously been dismissed following the protests carried out in 2011,” a circuit statement read.
“The employees had been dismissed as they were deemed to be in breach of contract during the protests in Bahrain in 2011. Following the protests, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa commissioned an independent inquiry to investigate the protests, the
findings of which were published in November 2011,” he said.
Bahrain is considered the home of Formula 1 in the Middle East and brings in a lot of revenue for the sport. It would be a shame if the country loses out on holding the event.
