Bahrain protests blaze against F1 after protestor’s death, public demonstrations – Formula 1 news
The F1 officials and the race coordinators have been expressing their confidence for Bahrain Grand Prix which is going to be held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir on April 22, 2012.
However, the recent incident of a protestor’s death has resulted in ascended protests against F1.
Protestors have intensified their demonstrations and have pressurised the authorities to cancel the race about to occur in the next three weeks.
It will be important to mention here that the race has already been cancelled during the last year due to the public protest and civil unrest.
However, during this season the F1 executives and the organizers of the race have been upbeat about the race until the recent event occurred this weekend.
During the last week, Bernie Ecclestone, chief executive of F1 discharged all the speculations regarding the cancellation of Bahrain GP and called it ‘nonsense.’
“Of course the race is going to happen,” Ecclestone said. “No worries at all. What I don't understand are the negative statements being made, people catching them and continuing them. They're saying things they don't understand. People say to me 'There's
not going to be a race.' And I say 'Well how do you know?' And they tell me they saw or read something, but it's all nonsense. These people [the Bahrainis] were brave enough to start an event in that part of the world, and that's it. We'll be there as long
as they want us.”
He also said that all the arrangements which are necessary for the security of the teams and spectators have been ensured. Furthermore, he said that the media should portray the reality rather than the making up stories, in the news.
Besides, the blazing incident of mounting public demonstrations and riots have put a question mark on the statement of the president of the Automobile Federation of Bahrain, Sheikh Abdullah bin Isa al-Khalifa who said that there will be no need of more security
for the race.
Nonetheless, it has been reported that massive security operation is going on, behind the veil, to ensure the safety of all the contenders of the race and the audience.
