Bahraini activists not favouring rescheduling of 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that a group of activists from Bahrain recently wrote a letter to the chief executive officer of Formula 1 Management Bernie Ecclestone pleading him not to reschedule the 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix.
“Not mentioning the difficult climatic conditions, and the fact that organizing a motor sport festival in the middle of a despotic crackdown on the population, wouldn't be well understood and accepted worldwide,” the letter stated.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced that it is going to reveal its decision regarding the rescheduling of the postponed 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix until May 1, 2011. It was believed that the race might take place since the organisers of
the race are in favour of holding it this year.
The race was initially called off because of the fact that the political condition in Bahrain was not stable and violent protests were being held throughout the country because of which it was not safe to hold a Formula 1 race.
The government of Bahrain has announced that it is in a state of emergency and will remain in it for 3 months. It has also advised against rescheduling of the Bahrain GP.
Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa has recently announced that he is not going to attend the Royal Wedding in London either in order to prove to his people that he is concerned about the current situation of the country deeply.
“While these [media reports] have certainly highlighted a number of significant issues currently facing the Kingdom of Bahrain, they have fundamentally misrepresented my own views, outlook and position on recent events,” said Salman.
He wrote a letter to the Prince of Wales to inform him and said that he is “troubled and saddened” by the current condition of his country and the bloodshed due to activist protests.
As a result, the group of activists has advised Bernie not to hold the Bahrain Grand Prix this year. Let’s see how the situation of the country transpires in the next few weeks and whether the Bahrain GP takes place or not.
