Australia’s T20 skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Australia, the four time reigning champions of one-day World Cup and the most successful Test playing nation of all time, are yet to win their lone T20 trophy. Moreover, they are currently ranked ninth on ICC’s T20 team rankings’ chart, only ahead of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
Bailey, who was appointed as Australia’s T20 skipper in January this year, admitted that his side did not take the shortest format that seriously. However, he said that their approach has altered and vowed to rectify the mistakes of past by winning this
year’s T20 showpiece, which gets underway in Sri Lanka on Tuesday, September 18, and will run till October 7.
"It's one trophy we don't have in our cabinet and it's something we're looking to rectify," said the Tasmanian top-order batsman during a media encounter here in Colombo, on Thursday.
"It's a bit of a process, Australia didn't really take T20 that seriously, I certainly think that's changed...it doesn't change overnight, it takes a bit of time to catch up," the Australian skipper went on to add.
Bailey and men geared up for the T20 extravaganza with a three-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033. The Kangaroos lost the opening two fixtures of the series before making a strong comeback in the final encounter with a 94-run thrashing
of the 2009 T20 World Champions.
The Tasmanian, who turned 30 last Friday, said that the comprehensive victory in the third match, at Dubai has boosted their morale and hoped to take the winning momentum into the marquee tournament.
"We’d a really good build up, we obviously had a disappointing first game but from there on in...we played some really good, consistent cricket with bat and ball," Bailey added.
"To finish off series with our strongest performance was excellent and certainly arriving here as confident as can be and with a little bit of momentum."
Australia, the losing finalists of the 2010 edition, have been drawn in Group B with Ireland and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. They will face the semi-professional Irish cricketers in the tournament opener, at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, on September 19.
