The English International pointed out that the Toffees tend to finish the season on a strong note. Now that they have got their campaign off to a flyer, they have got a wonderful opportunity to finish inside the top six.
“We can use teams like Newcastle as inspiration. Spurs did it a couple of seasons ago. We look at those sides and realise it isn’t beyond us, especially if we can start well because we tend to finish the season stronger,” he told the reporters in an interview.
Everton, who saw their eleven-match unbeaten streak get snapped by West Bromwich Albion in the previous game, will take on the Toon at Goodison Park on Monday.
Baines insisted that their defeat at the hands of the Baggies was a hiccup, and was confident they will get back to winning ways against Newcastle.
“We got off to two really good wins, the Manchester United one but we played a lot better against Aston Villa. It was disappointing to have the West Brom setback but that maybe ensures we don’t get too ahead of ourselves,” he added.
