England defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 in his bid to secure a place in the starting eleven.
The Evertonian, who played no part in England’s World Cup 2010 campaign in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757, also revealed that his frustration of not being able to represent the Three Lions in the grand football event had finally ebbed away, after seeing his name in the 23-man
crew hand-picked by Roy Hodgson for the Euro competition next month.
England are scheduled to play a friendly match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 on 11th of June.
Baines, who has capped 8 international appearances in total, will go into the competition on the back of an impressive form at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 last season.
Anyhow, the defender admitted that he was feeling mentally relaxed ahead of the tournament and was glad not to be in the list of the standby players.
He told the club’s official website, “It's nice to get the call. Last time it was an initial 30-man squad and you were hanging around for a couple of weeks.”
“Hopefully this call-up goes a bit to making up for that a little bit.”
However, the 27-year old will compete with Cole for a place in the playing eleven, with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 defender also booming with confidence after helping the Blues hoist their first Champions League Trophy in May.
Baines expressed his admiration for Cole and indicated that he was under no illusion of taking his place in the team for granted.
He said, “Ashley is a top, top player so it would be very difficult to get into the team.”
However, Baines will draw confidence from the fact that he was able to start for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 in the last three games. He pointed out that after his early struggles, he had finally managed to merge in the national team.
He added, “The good thing is I've started the last three games and am starting to really feel part of the squad. It's something you grow into almost and starting games is going to help you do that.”
