Everton defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leighton-Baines-c21987, has rubbished the speculations linking him to a move away from Goodison Park in January.
The English International revealed the he was more than happy to stay at Everton, and was fully committed in helping the Merseyside club secure a Champions League slot this campaign.
The prolific defender is considered by many as the best left-back in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. His inspirational presence in the backline coupled with the ability to involve himself in the final quarter has made him David Moyes’ most reliable weapon.
Consequently, the 27-year old caught the attention of Premier League’s top-flight teams. The nineteen-time champions, Manchester United, reportedly entered the transfer market in summer to prize him out of Goodison Park in order to bolster their defence.
However, their overture was spurned by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes.
Although rumours have started to surface all over again over the player’s probable exodus from Merseyside in January, Baines moved to quell such reports.
The English footballer revealed that he was aware of all the talk that was going on in the media about his future. He said that the only thing which was on his mind at the moment was to help the Toffees claim a top-four berth this season, and that he had
no plans of calling it quits to his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 career in the near future.
“There have been a few windows and a few rumours and there's nothing to worry about,” he said.
“There are a lot of lads here who have been at the club for a long time now and we want to bring [Champions League football to Goodison] not just for ourselves and our own ambitions but for the other people at the club, the manager, the chairman, the fans.”
The Goodison Park outfit seems to have lost their momentum, after getting their campaign off to a sublime start. The team have only collected 9 points from their last 8 matches. However, they are still at touching distance from the fourth-ranked Tottenham
Hotspur, trailing them by a narrow margin of 3 points.
Baines feels that if his side are able to replicate their start in the closing stages, there was no reason why they could not reclaim their position in the elite European competition.
“It would be a massive achievement for us if we could get those European nights back at Goodison,” he added.
