Bairstow vows to use Yorkshire platform to earn a national call up – Cricket News Update
Struggling top-order batsman Jonny Bairstow has vowed to play well for county side Yorkshire to regain his place in England’s Test squad.
The 22-year-old right-handed batsman has been recently overlooked by the English selectors for the just to begin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 challenge, where the hosts will be defending their World No. 1 Test status.
While speaking to the media reporters on Wednesday, the 22-year-old Yorkshire man said that missing out on a place in the national squad was quite disappointing, however he vowed to use his county stint with Yorkshire as platform to press claims for
a national call-up.
“It's obviously disappointing not to be in that squad. But I haven't scored enough runs, so that's fair enough,” Bairstow told
Sky Sports.
"I've come back down to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 really hungry to score runs, really hungry to get back out on the park and spend some time in the middle,” he added further.
Bairstow's form for Yorkshire has also been quite disappointing, with the right-hander failing to score more than 17 in any of his past five innings for the county side. He is also expected to take his place behind the wickets, in the county championship
matches, something he is excited about doing.
"I'm really excited to be back, keeping wicket and hopefully scoring some runs…I feel I am well capable of doing," said the top-order batsman.
"There won't be any half measures. I will be going into it whole-heartedly, to come back and really work hard on my game and hopefully get back in that squad," he hoped.
The Yorkshire top-order batsman earned a late call up to England’s Test squad for West Indies series, after Ravi Bopara was ruled out, after picking up a thigh injury. However, the inexperienced right-handed batsman failed to capitalize on the opportunity,
and ended up scoring only 38 runs in four innings. He was specifically susceptible against short pitched deliveries.
His struggling form in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 earlier this month, scoring 182 runs in four innings, including
half centuries at The Oval and Old Trafford.
