Question:

Baitcast reel having reeling in troubles.?

I recently received a baicast reel. A Daiwa Megaforce to be exact. Sometimes when I start reeling in the tension from the reel handle begins to vary. It starts becoming very stiff and difficult to reel in but then fixes itself and acts normal and goes to stiff again.

  1. you got string inside the reel itself.. take it apart.. its' an easy fix.

  2. I LOVE Daiwa reels!

I have the Procaster Rojo, the Viento, and the bad@$$ TD Zillion 7.1 burner, and none have given me any trouble...well the Viento did with spool noise on cast, but a thorough cleaning, and light lube with Quantum Hotsauce fixed that problem.

I say send it back to Daiwa out in Cali, if it is still under its 1 year warranty, or take it back to where you bought it, if it is within their return policy and you still have the receipt.

I love the thumbar on the Viento, but I thought the Megaforce was mostly plastic, and only costs $50-$60 bucks. Pricey yes, but maybe not so heavy duty or quality made. I dunno...but you get what you pay for, but it gets good reviews on Cabelas.

Strange, I say send it back, before you go tearing into it yourself.

  3. Is this a new reel or used?

If used it needs a good cleaning and a relube on the inside or tis the pawl going bad!

It may be several different things I would have to see the reel firsthand to give you the 100% correct answer!!

  4. It could be the felt and steel drag washers inside the reel, or possibly the clutch late is slipping and needs a new one, make sure there is oil on the reels bearings and gears, take the drag washers out and clean them and remove any oil and dirt, do not apply oil to these or they will slip and you will have no drag, if its brand new take it back and ask for it to be replaced, don't go trying to take it apart if your not confident in assembling it back, it should still be under warranty if its new.

  5. Alright, if this reel is used and hasn't been cleaned up properly or taken care of in a while, it might be as simple as opening it up putting lube on the moving parts and gears or just spraying the whole inside with WD-40.

If that doesn't fix the problem then your going to need to make sure the break rods on the side are not bent or staying engaged at the wrong times.  Other things is check the gears that the handle attached to there might be a messed up tooth on it.

You can always take it to a reel repair shop if that doesn't solve it or if you have the warranty.

  6. I have this exact reel. Love the twitchin bar!! I agree with the answer about lubing it up and cleaning it. I frequently clean mine and lube it. I have never had that problem. Hope you figure it out!
