what is a good baitcasting rod/reel combo for a beginner for baitcasting? Also, is it better to get a rod/reel combo or to buy the reel and rod seperate when it comes to baitcasting for a beginner? I have been fishing for over 25 years, but would like to try baitcasting.

  1. answer : rod/reel combo reason the are balanced for each other.try http://www.bassproshop.com/fishing Look under rods/reel combo look for tourney special bait casting rod reel combo .around $70.00 med. or medium heavy depends on type of fishing.

  2. It probably would be a little cheaper to buy a Baitcast combo. Depending on what you want to spend you can get a really cheap combo for around $60 but to get a well versed baitcast reel with the combo you might want to splurge a little. I left a link to help you get an idea.

  3. If you are want to pursue baitcasting, get a good set.

Or, you can get a cheap combo and test it out.

I'm a Shimano person so I like the Curado 100D.

I also heard that the Abu Garcia Revo STX is very good.

***Be sure to practice casting with plugs/weights before hitting the water!!

  4. Buy separate reel and rod.

Do some research on the type of fish you are bound to catch. What size rod and reel combo makes sense?

Pick out a couple of models. Go to the nearest sporting goods with the model numbers in hand. Engage one of the clerk's to show you the models you have picked out. Listen to the clerk as they may have some experience. Take notes.

Take all you have learned and exit the store. Go home and think about what you just saw. Then buy the equipment you like from Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's or one of those on-line outfits. It will be cheaper this way.

I will suggest though to buy bait and lures on occaision from the local sporting goods to allow them to stay in business even if their prices are higher. You might need them again to view some tackle in person.

  5. when i first started using a baitcast reel i got a cheap combo just for practice and never did any serious fishing with it then after i got the hang of it i started to buy more expensive reels and combos to fish with.

  6. Like most people said,it's best to start out with a cheaper combo and then decide how much you enjoy it.Never hurts to have en extra pole lying around.
