  1. First, you have to cook the macaroni on the stove beforehand.

Second, the sauce is very thin and won't benefit from baking. Usually baked macaroni and cheese uses a harder cheese like fresh cheddar.

If you want a little browning, you can try sticking completely prepared mac and cheese into the oven for a little bit. But I don't think you'll get much benefit.

  2. it wouldnt improve anything about it...

baked mac and cheese is held at a much higher standard than box mac and cheese... for texture and flavor.

i would just cook it in the pot and not dirty the extra dishes.

  3. I doubt it.  I make baked macaroni and cheese, and I make a white sauce with lots of shredded REAL cheese to pour over it and bake.  With a boxed mix, you wouldn't have the sauce and you'd be using powdered fake cheese ...... why not just make homemade mac & cheese

  4. Any macaroni and cheese needs to have the macaroni cooked first....if you did that with the box type, you could then combine all the other ingredients and bake it, but that's just an extra step that isn't necessary...if you want to make from scratch, then you could do the baking of it all....

  5. Go for it!!

  6. hmm i dont think that it would taste good..a god way to make is like this

    boil noodles

get another bowl and put milk and put cheddar cheese in it

put the noodles in a baking pan for the over and pour the cheddar cheese and milk..then add more cheddar cheese on top and the put alittle powder in it..and then it'll become the best mac and cheese! :)

  7. It would be kinda pointless.

To make a good baked macaroni, you need to make it from scratch. But its really really easy.

Just boil the noodles until super al dente (not quite ready to eat).

While they're going, brown some onions in about 2 Tbsp of butter in a saucepan.

Sprinkle on 2 Tbsp flour. Cook until a light blonde.

Add about 2 cups of milk and bring to a boil.

Then remove from heat and add about 1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar, a handful at a time, until its all melted.

Mix with the drained noodles, and pack into a casserole dish.

Top with some shredded cheese and some breadcrumbs if you like

Bake at 350 F till golden and bubbly.

  8. No, you would have crunch macaroni, it needs to be rehydrated in boiling water.

  9. If you HAVE to use boxed mac-n-cheese  you can improve it by doing some things to give you a better flavor.

    1) Add some more cheese. Try a sharp cheddar or be adventurous and try an asagio, or swiss, the more flavor the better.

2)Add a little dry mustard if you have it.

    3) Once the mac-n-cheese is ready to go in the oven sprinkle the top with some more cheese or both cheese and bread crumbs.

Bake until all brown and bubbly on top.

Some other suggestions would be to add some sour cream rather than milk when making it, that will be richer and creamier.

I have heard of people adding 1 or 2 eggs that have been beaten to the cheese mixture but I have not done that .

Mac and cheese is so easy that using a box is almost unnecessary.
