Question:

Baking Powder or Baking Soda?

I got baking powder and soda from a store where you buy stuff in bulk.. one problem though, how do i tell which is which? I didnt label them (stupid me) and got the same amount of both. Please help!

  3. Putting a tiny amount of both on tongue for taste should work. the Baking soda should give a strong salt taste.

  4. Take a small pinch from one of the bags and put it in a bowl.  Add a few drops of vinegar.  If the white stuff fizzes when the vinegar is applied, it's baking soda.  If nothing happens other than the vinegar gets milky looking from the white stuff mixing with it, it's baking power.  The acid in the vinegar will react with the basic (or non acidic) baking soda to release carbon dioxide bubbles.
