Question:

Baking Substitutions...?

I'm in a bit of a fix...I'm making cookies and have every single ingredient I need, except baking soda. I already mixed everything together (including eggs and the other liquid ingredients), I just don't have any baking soda. Turns out my dad used it last night to explode in the microwave with some vinegar...

Is there ANY substitute for baking soda? I've got baking powder, which I know is cream of tartar and baking soda, but they're not interchangeable...what do I do? It's 11:00 at night so all the grocery stores are closed. I can wait until morning if there's nothing I can do...

  1. looks like you're having cookies for breakfast, 'cause I don't believe there's a substitute for baking soda.... if you can get to a pharmacy and find some bicarbinate of soda it's the same thing.

  2. You've already guessed the right answer.  There's nothing in this case to substitute for the baking soda.  Refrigerate the creamed items until tomorrow.

Well, at least you'll have fresh baked cookies tomorrow!
