baking with splenda?? whats with the taste?

i was making snickerdoodles once and by accident i bought the wrong kind of splenda

it was the regular kinda you put in teas

but i didn't buy the baking kind, so after you create the dough for snickerdoodles and roll them around in the cinnamon sugar (which i did ) i baked them and i tried one and it tasted soooooooooo sweet

whats the reason for this? maybe because i bought the wrong type of splenda or i used too much of it??

and splenda causes cancer right?

how does baking wiht splenda taste when you bake with it?

  1. The person above me is correct, splenda is much sweeter than sugar. Hence you cannot use it exactly like sugar. You have to use a lot less. Less than half in fact. Saccharin has been known to cause cancer in lab rats. Saccharin is found in Equal, not Splenda which contains Sucralose.

  2. Splenda is an artificial sweetener that is relatively new on the consumer market. It is approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar, thus needing to use very little sweeten food and beverages. The common term for Splenda is sucralose.

Splenda is used in a variety of products from dessert mixes to syrups. It is also used as a direct sugar substitute, meaning you can use it in place of sugar in coffee and recipes that call for sugar.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of sucralose, brand name Splenda, to be on the consumer market. This safety of the product is based on the review of over 110 studies involving animals and humans. The FDA looked for carcinogenic (cancer-causing), reproductive and neurological effects of usage and found none.

The bottom line is that the FDA has found no cancer causing properties in the usage of Splenda.

And if you MUST use it for baking, use half the amount, or try using Honey....

  3. use less.
