Bakken oil field?

What's going on with the large deposit of shale under North Dakota? We wouldn't need to be dependant on getting our fuel from overseas. Gasoline prices could be so much lower. 4 to 500,000 000,000 barrelsof recoverable oil would be so benificial and it's right here in the states.

  1. we've got oil reserves everywhere but the environazi's wont let anyone recover it or build refinery's to process it.

all it takes is the threat of a long endless lawsuit to keep anyone in their right mind from investing the millions that are necessary to develop new energy fields.

  2. It's all about profit.  The oil field has not been opened up yet because of the nature of the deposit and the difficulty in extracting it.  It is mostly oil shale which is like oil soaked rocks.  There is extra processing involved in getting the oil out and thus a greater cost.

When the cost of oil goes up to the point where this field is profitable, the oil companies will be hopping into it like rabbits into a lettuce patch.  We can only suppose that at present it is more profitable for these companies to be doing other things.

  3. Yes we need to develop all sources. I think that the Arabs will eventually use it as a weapon against US,
