Bakkies Botha to play 100th Super Rugby match for Bulls- Super Rugby News
The Bulls veteran player, Bakkies Botha, is set to pay his 100th Super Rugby match for his team on June 18. The Bulls will take on the Sharks in their last clash of the current Super Rugby season at Loftus as the match is equally important for
the both teams to make their place in the playoffs. The South African derby Bulls is placed fifth on the tables and the Sharks follow closely in sixth place.
Botha, who is making a comeback in the side after an injury, is determined to make his 100th game memorable both for his team and for himself. The seasoned player was set to achieve the milestone against their previous match with the South African
top ladders, Stormers, but a knee injury did not allow him to participate in that game.
Botha made his Super Rugby debut in 2002 for the Bulls and has been playing for the same derby consistently. The lock confirmed his position in the team with the passage of time and became a formidable part of the unit. He is also a member of the South African
national side, Springboks. He has represented his national side in 65 matches and is hopeful that he will get to play in the forthcoming Rugby World Cup 2011.
Botha has been applauded by his side at achieving the milestone and the Bulls are determined to gift a victory on the day. Captain of the Bulls, Victor Matfield, also spoke to reporters and said that, “We just want to do well in this season, so we try to
get the emotions away. Focus on the game, hopefully winning this game and going on playing more games to come.”
Talking to the reporters, today on July 16, Botha said that it will be an honour for him to play 100 matches of Super Rugby. He added that, “It’s a special day for me but a 100 is just a bonus, definitely we are not going to spend our time and energy on
this game 100th game and it’s a special day in front of the home crowd. We’ve got a job to do this weekend and that’s to win the game against the Sharks.
The winner of Saturday’s fixture will lock their position in the playoffs.
