Balanced Equation for Mg + Pb(NO3)2, I got something like this: +Pb(NO3)2 --> Mg(NO3)2 + Pb.

But i Don't get how Mg(NO3)2 is balanced. It makes it look like the molecule has a -2 charge help please :)

  1. Mg => Charge = +2

    NO3- => Charge = -1

    Mg(NO3)2 => +2 -1 - 1 = 0

    It is balanced

  2. You got the equation right.

    (NO3) is an -1 charged anion.

    Mg is a +2 charged cation.

    Mg needs 2 ( NO3) to balance the charge

    Mg ------ NO3

    +2 -------- -1

    Mg ------- 2(NO3)

    = Mg(NO3)2

  3. Mg has a charge of +2 because it is in group two in the periodic table. The NO3 has a -1 charge. so you basically cross multiply:

    Mg        NO3

    +2         -1

    = Mg(NO3)2

    its saying that to every Mg, there are two NO3's.
