Baldini reveals Tottenham and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 snub and has full backing for Enrique: Serie A news
A.S http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-c14050 Baldini, has revealed that he rejected offers from England national team and Tottenham Hotspur to join the Giallorossi.
Baldini left the England post to join the Italian outfit in October this year and the former Bari midfielder is loving his time in the peninsula. Baldini admitted that Tottenham offered him a lucrative offer but he was never tempted
by it and he only wanted to join Roma. The 51-year-old revealed that he knew that he will have to face a lot of difficulties in adjusting to the new setup at the Stadio Olimpico Rome but he is up for the challenge.
“In order to return to Roma, I turned down very advantageous offers, such as the one from Tottenham. I currently earn €600,000 per season, but the American owners offered me €1m, which at this moment I think is too much.”
The Capital club was taken over by an American group headed by Thomas Di Benedetto earlier this year and they have made wholesale changes to the structure of the club. The results have not been so favourable for the Giallorossi
thus far in the 2011/12 season as they are placed 7th in the league table. However, Baldini has trust in the team and he is confident that they will start producing the results very soon.
The 51-year-old has backed the club manager, Luis Enrique, and believes that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 B coach is heading towards the right direction. The chief insisted that the team has been doing extremely well under Enrique but
unfortunately the results have not helped his side.
The former Pescara midfielder wants Roma to be recognised amongst the best clubs in the world and he is confident of reaching that status by next season.
“I have great respect for Enrique, in fact he is better than I expected. The only thing that isn’t working right now is that we keep losing. However, we must consolidate the group this year and forge an identity. We want to reach
the top of international football, so I won’t see Roma just potter along.”
Roma will take on Fiorentina in their next game.
